See what KC’s REACH is all about

Washington, DC is all abuzz about the recently-opened Kennedy Center’s $250-million REACH expansion sitet. Designed to get the public up close and personal with how art is created, the REACH consists of unique and intimate rehearsal, performance, and outdoor spaces where people can watch performing artists create.  No ticket weekdays at the National Museum of African American History and Culture

One of the hottest museums in Washington, DC-voted the favorite museum in Washington in NBC 4’s recent poll just got a whole lot easier to visit. The National Museum of African American History recently announced that guests can now visit NMAAHC during with week without reserved time passes, valid through February of 2020! Catch AFI’s two film festivals

Going on now through October 2, the American Film Institute’s Latin American Film Festival in Silver Spring, MD showcases 53 unique films this year. Twenty-three Latin American countries are represented in these diverse comedies, dramas, and more. For schedule and ticket information, visit AFI’s website. And next up for AFI is its collaboration with Meet the Press on MTP’s October Film Festival (October 7) in Washington, DC, highlighting topics like criminal justice reform, climate change, immigration, and racial and gender equality.  The event includes film screenings and panels moderated by MTP’s Chuck Todd that will include NBC and MSNBC reporters and commentators. Maryland Food Bank marks Hunger Action Month

To celebrate its 40th Anniversary, Maryland Food Bank is highlighting Hunger Action Month with food and fund drives, and launching its “It Takes More” campaign—because it takes more than food to end hunger…it will take you! As MFB describes it on its website …Show the world that with a little creativity and a little teamwork, together we can end hunger for more Marylanders: Snap a selfie of you volunteering. Record a video of your family donating its backyard garden bounty to your local pantry and upload it. Share a screengrab of your virtual food drive…Post your action to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (or all three!) using #ItTakesMore….and let the entire state know you are willing to stand up for our hungry neighbors.

Middle-schoolers are changing our world

Society for Science & the Public and Broadcom Foundation just announced the top 300 student scientists in the nation’s premier science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) competition for middle-school students. Project topics include life-changing discoveries for people, including using machine learning and infrared technology to detect drunk drivers, investigating the role of melatonin and Omega-3 in healing brain injuries, examining the effects of vaping liquid nicotine, and so much more.
