Avalon Weekly Dispatch 6.16.20

Dear friends,

I hope you have all been able to take care of yourselves and perhaps participate in some of the incredibly moving protests that continue around the country. In the nonprofit space, I have been particularly inspired by theaters’ #openyourlobby response and the National Parks Conservation Association’s letter regarding Park Police actions at Lafayette Park.

On the COVID front, we are watching re-openings carefully. I thought this article from the New York Times offered good guidance for responsible decisions and found this survey of Boston-area museum directors enlightening.

This week in leadership, Avalon is refocusing on strengths and resilience. We have organized a series of trainings on both topics here, which have been helpful grounding for our operations. In addition, Kerri and I continue to encourage our team to take the time they need for self-care, community involvement, and learning.

Finally, we want to celebrate Pride month with you! While Pride looks a little different this year, it is more important than ever. If you’re missing events in your community, check out these resources, including a great list of movies to watch. And, as Pride month wraps up, a 24-hour livestream global celebration is planned for June 27.

I hope you have a good week, and I will sign off with these motivating words from Kerri: “I hope you all continue to take inspiration from our fundraising work. There are good people out there who want to join with others and bring about positive change – and our job lets us help them make that connection with organizations they can trust.”

Take care,

Avalon COO Kerri Kerr and I send daily leadership updates to the Avalon staff, and we are sharing the highlights with Avalon clients and friends weekly.
