Ann Herzog founded the Avalon Consulting Group in 1997 with a vision for a full-service fundraising consulting agency that would "connect great causes to great people." Drawing on her expertise in strategic planning, program design and creative development, Ann has raised millions of dollars for a diverse range of nonprofit clients, including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Southern Poverty Law Center, and the League of Women Voters.
In addition to providing strategic and creative direction to Avalon's clients, Ann has also been the driving force behind the development of Avalon's unique internal culture, which truly values employees, supports their professional development, promotes work-life balance and fosters collaboration and teamwork.
Ann began her direct marketing career at the Dave Dawson Company in 1980 and has been providing consulting services to nonprofits since 1987. Ann was an early pioneer in integrated marketing, using a mail-phone strategy to improve client fundraising results. Over the past eight years, these integrated strategies have expanded to include online fundraising and outreach.
Ann is a frequent speaker on nonprofit fundraising and integrated marketing. She is a past president of the Direct Marketing Association of Washington and an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. In 1998, she was named "Woman of the Year" by the Women's Direct Response Group of Washington, D.C. Prior to Avalon, Ann was principal and founder of Herzog Swayze, Inc. Ann serves on the Board of Directors of the School for Friends in Washington, D.C.
