Avalon attended the American Museum Membership Conference (AMMC) October 24-27 in Philadelphia. This conference is unique in that it is entirely dedicated to discovery and review of best practices in member service and fundraising for museums. The conference is held each year in a new city in the U.S. chosen to present visiting opportunities within museums that represent the best in museum exhibitions and traditions of excellence in membership fundraising. We had a great time learning with our clients and other museums about what's working for musuem membership programs. Don't worry, we made time for some awesome cheesesteaks, too!
A number of Avalon staff attended and participated in the conference, presenting on acquisition, benchmarking and online fundraising for museums.

Kerri Kerr and Dara Rosenberg Igersheim kicked off the conference with an Acquisition 101 session that covered the essentials of direct mail acquisition, including the importance of allowing your list to be exchanged as well as what goes in to the Successful Arts Membership Formula:

Dara Roseberg Igersheim and Kristen Shank Finn got up bright and early to host a round table discussion on benchmarking museum membership programs:

And Barb Perell joined David Saunders, Director of Membership at the National Museum of the American Indian to share how the museum has built their online fundraising program:
